The average buyer visits 4.2 sites and spends over 14 hours choosing a car. AutoDrom puts that journey in one app.
Search, vehicle history, a payment calculator and contact with the seller on one page. Buyer behavior figures come from the project's business plan.
About the project
AutoDrom is a two-sided car marketplace for the US. It connects buyers with new and used car dealers and private sellers across all 50 states. The platform runs as iOS and Android apps and a website, all three on one backend.
The idea follows the path of Auto.ru and Drom.ru, adapted to the American market. It tackles three problems: listings are scattered across many sites, buyers can't see the true cost of ownership, and dealers find AutoTrader and CarGurus expensive and hard to work with.
An ecosystem is built around the purchase itself: parts with store fronts, rentals, car delivery, owner reviews, reliability ratings and a forum.

Main revenue streams
How the platform earns
The model has six streams, and none should exceed 35% of revenue: dealer subscriptions, paid listing promotion, display ads by impressions and clicks, vehicle history report sales, referral fees from insurers for leads and paid options for private sellers.
According to the business plan a history report costs $2-6 wholesale and sells for $9.99-24.99, a 60-75% gross margin per sale. A private seller posts up to 3 listings free, and promotion costs $9.99 for a week or $19.99 for a month.
Market and competitors
US online auto advertising per the business plan is $15.8B in 2024 growing about 9% a year, automotive lead generation $3.2B, the vehicle history report market $850M. The country has about 18,000 franchised and over 40,000 independent dealers, the direct audience for subscriptions.
95% of buyers research a car online before buying, 67% start searching on a smartphone, 78% of used car buyers check the history, 54% want to see the insurance price right in the listing.
Main competitors: CarGurus, Cars.com, AutoTrader and Carvana. AutoDrom bets on what they don't offer in one place: insurance and total cost of ownership on the listing page, VIN camera scanning, recall checks by VIN and a lower entry price for dealers.
